HOW MUCH SHOULD WE CARE?

WHO CARES WINS

EPISODE 8 l 26 NOV 2020

HOW MUCH SHOULD WE CARE?

WITH PATTI SMITH, JONATHAN SAFRAN FOER, JOSHUA OPPENHEIMER, FARHANA YAMIN, JULIA SAMUELS AND WADE DAVIS

People know what's going on and they care about what's going on. And yet we're battling inaction, not indifference, but inaction. Having the right attitudes or the right opinions or saying the right thing, we can confuse ourselves and believe that we're participating in a way that we're not actually participating.

In this final season episode of Who Cares Wins, Lily explores the overwhelm and grief that can come with climate action. But conversely, if we truly understand the deconstruction that is taking place, why do we continue with business as usual? Are many of us living in denial? We hear from the poet songwriter Patti Smith about what she learned from the Dalai Lama. Writer Jonathan Safran Foer discusses the empathic leap required; and film-maker Joshua Oppenheimer shares what he learnt about cognitive dissonance when filming The Act of Killing, and the stories we tell ourselves to justify our actions. Lily also speaks with climate activist and lawmaker Farhana Yamin about her journey to and through eco-grief, and psychologist Julia Samuels discusses her clinical experience of eco-grief and anxiety, and tools we might use to lesson overwhelm. Finally, Wade Davis offers wisdom from Tibet.

Thanks @patriciaimbarus ♥️
Christopher Plummer. A very noble, lovely, gentle man. An acting giant. It was a real honour to have worked so closely with him ~ to have called him my father in an imaginary world. RIP #christopherplummer #drparnassus
